The TerraVerde team provided agricultural design for implementing an irrigation and drainage system on 20,000 hectares of land. The scope of the project conducted by the Tahal Group covered the choice of crops, crop rotations, irrigation systems and irrigation scheduling and expected water usage patterns. The project also included the economics of irrigated agriculture —crop revenues, input costs and expected profits based on local market data. An economic analysis was done on the entire project.
The project benefits thousands of small-scale farmers in the Lake Tana area. Yield boosts following
the introduction of irrigation, novel varieties and related technologies are expected to be four to
five fold. Welfare and standards of living in the area are expected to be revolutionized following
the implementation of the project.
Project investment: $100M , World Bank project loan to the Government of Ethiopia
